About Rebecca Reid Aboriginal Art

Like mother like daughter.

My Story

Raised by my Grandmother, Pamela, a Wiradjuri woman from Gilgandra, NSW, I spent the biggest parts of my childhood growing up in the bush. It was adventurous and exciting but tough living the life I grew up with.

As a child my imagination was a wild one at that. The expressive gene was strong with other family members also having the gift of creativity. I used this imagination as an escape from what was a not so great upbringing.

I was born in Dubbo, NSW and lived in different places as a child. Narrabri and Baradine were two towns my family called home, until my Grandmother (Mum), step father and myself settled in Warren, NSW. We moved once more to Nevertire and I finished Yr 12 at Warren Central School.

My hometown of Warren was a magical place to grow up in, no other place like it and I found so much love for this small country town out on the Central West Slopes and plains and it is often the fondest memories of this place that inspire most of my pieces today.

My childhood wasn't an easy one but through a positive mindset and determination to do better and be better than what I was surrounded by as a child I turned my past struggles and love of art into a thriving business that I have worked hard to build.

Over the past 8 years, I have cemented my name in the art world as an established Aboriginal artist selling to hundreds of art collectors around the world.

Today, I live in Perth WA, where my husband and three beautiful children share a life by the sea. Still blessed to have a home amongst glorious bushland and the added bonus of incredible beaches right at our doorstep my creativity flows with inspiration everyday.

I respectfully acknowledge the Whadjuk and Yued people as the traditional owners of this beautiful land I call home.

There is so much more to my story, from being detached from who I was at a young age and denied the truth of my culture by everyone around me and having to learn about my past at an older age and I am so happy to share this history with whoever wants to know me more. Just ask and I will happily tell you all about what makes me, me.
